Santa Fe Eats

Posted by Sheryl Salisbury

Okay, last blog entry about Santa Fe.  I'm sorry but we just had so much fun I can't keep it to myself!  lol

My son, Kaden, picked out some places to eat in Santa Fe based on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.  We made sure to try the same thing they showed on the show.  It was a fun way to choose our food.  We'll have to remember that for the next vacation.  Here were two of our favorites:

This place was Tune-Up Cafe. Their mexican food and desserts rocked!

Backroad Pizza had some of the best red sauce and crust I've ever had.  Talk about great homemade pizza!

The end!  I promise no more about Santa Fe!  lol  Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Santa Fe

Here are a few more things my family and I did in Santa Fe:  (Have I talked you into a visit there?  lol  It would be worth it.)
This is a picture of the Palace of the Governors.  As you can read on the photo, a program allowed Native American Vendors to lay blankets on the sidewalk and sell their goods.  There was jewelry, pottery and other art work for sale.  We bought a few goodies to bring home with us.

The next three images are from Bandelier National Monument.  We hiked the area to look at ancient Pueblo dwellings and ruins.  It was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed the hike and history lesson.

Cathedrals in Santa Fe

Another one of our favorite things to see in Santa Fe were the cathedrals/chapels.  The architecture was absolutely beautiful.  Here are a couple we visited:

This is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assissi.  It was built in the 1800's and still remains as beautiful inside and out as it was then.  Beauty at its finest.

Another chapel we visited was The Loretto Chapel.  It too was built in the 1800's.  This chapel contains the miracle staircase which legend says was built by St. Joseph the carpenter.  If you haven't read about it, you should.  It's very interesting.  It was just as beautiful as it was mysterious.  I was mesmorized by this place.  The fine detail and craftsmanship that went into the stairs and the building of the chapel was beyond outstanding.

Traveling to Santa Fe

My family and I just returned from a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. We had so much fun being together and exploring a new place. I thought I'd share some of our trip with you.

On our way to Santa Fe, we stopped in Groom, Texas to see the western hemisphere's largest cross. It was much more than a large cross. There were many stations with life size statues depicting Christ's death. It was amazing to see. It topped the list on our favorite things to see.  In the picture below, my kids, Kelsey and Kaden are standing to the left of the cross.

In the photo below, my children, Kelsey & Kaden, are standing between the crosses at the top of the steps.

It was a long drive and we were glad to arrive in Santa Fe.  We stayed at the Inn of the Governors.  It was located very close to the city's square (or Palace as they call it). Very convenient.  Most things in Santa Fe were decorated in southwest decor including our hotel room.

Sad Note

Posted by Sheryl Salisbury

I usually post happy things.  However, I feel the need to say goodbye to one of our dear pets.  Our Cocker Spaniel, Kasey, passed away last week.  My daughter, Kelsey, received Kasey as a Christmas gift the year she was in kindergarten.  Kasey didn't quite make 12 Christmas' with us.  She had not been doing well for a while so we knew our time with her was short.  She was our family's first dog and we'll miss her very much.
